Cat excavator hydraulic system troubleshooting is the topic of this article. In the cat hydraulic excavator, the hydraulic system is a complicated structure. You’d better understand how it works and troubleshoot it carefully before you shoot to work. In this article, the troubleshooting of the failure of the boom stick control cylinder and boom cylinder are deeply analyzed.
cat excavator Power not reaching components
Hi, I just got a cat excavator with the 14.6L engine. The problem is that the machine doesn’t start. The equipment has been sitting for a while and the guy I got it from said he had some issues with the starter before parking it.
I tried to jump start it but found out that there was no power reaching the components. When I turn on the ignition, none of the gauges light up, not even the digital display, and I can’t hear any sound coming from the solenoids or actuators when pressing their buttons. All of this leads me to believe that there is no power getting to them at all.
I tried checking both batteries and they seem fine and have plenty of charge in them, but still no luck with getting a response from any component by jumping it directly from one battery bank to another.
You have power to the switch but not going to the motor. You need to find out why. It could be a loose connection, bad distribution block, cracked wire, or just a bad relay. Check the red wire from your battery directly to the motor. If you have power there then check for power at the relay and follow it through and see where it stops.
If you don’t have power at the motor I would start checking all connections and clean them if needed, install new ones if they are bad. The wires and connectors are probably under the dash on the passenger side.
cat excavator Hydraulic oil level low
Cat excavator designs and manufactures performance-driven products for a wide range of industries. This company is one of the leading manufacturers of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. Caterpillar Inc. was founded in 1925 by two brothers from the Holt Manufacturing Company, Benjamin Holt and Charles H. Holt. The company has more than 90 years of experience producing high quality, reliable products for its customers.
According to many customer reviews, this brand manufactures some of the best heavy-duty machines in the world. They are durable, reliable, efficient and user friendly. Their products are designed to meet the needs of different industries including agriculture, forestry, construction and mining industry.
Cat excavator is a global leader in engine technology, manufacturing engines for use in various applications including automobiles, trucks and buses as well as marine vessels such as ships or yachts. The company offers a wide range of diesel engines ranging from 2 cylinder models up to 12 cylinders models with power ratings ranging from 3 hp (2 kW) to over 1800 hp (1340 kW). The company also produces engine components such as fuel injection pumps which are used on many different types of vehicles including cars, trucks and buses; these components have been developed.
This low oil level will cause the hydraulic oil to over heat and eventually burn up the seals and destroy the pumps.
Checking the oil levels should be done daily to ensure there is no leaks or spillage.
If you have had a leak then you need to check the hydraulic oil cooler for blockages.
You can get blockages in the hydraulic oil cooler from debris getting sucked up from digging into the ground or even from silt getting washed through it from rain water.
The hydraulic oil does not expand so if you have a faulty sender for the hydraulic oil pressure gauge then this will also give a false reading which could result in not checking Hydraulic oil level.
Use of incorrect cat excavator hydraulic oil
Cat excavator hydraulic oil is a unique hydraulic oil with a unique formulation for the hydraulic system. If you put other hydraulic oil into the hydraulic system, serious damage will occur to the Caterpillar hydraulic system.
The reasons are as follows:
1. The viscosity of the general hydraulic oil is different from that of the Caterpillar hydraulic oil. The viscosity of the general hydraulic oil is 3-5 times that of the Caterpillar hydraulic oil, which increases the load and heat loss of Caterpillar’s main pump, greatly reducing its service life.
2. The anti-wear performance of ordinary hydraulic oil is much worse than that of Caterpillar’s special hydraulic oil, resulting in accelerated wear and tear on various high-pressure components in the main pump and reduced service life.
3. Ordinary synthetic oils such as PAO or Ester have extremely low compressive strength and cannot be used in systems with high-pressure working conditions.
Blockage in cat excavator hydraulic system
A blockage can cause the hydraulic oil to bypass the charge pump and enter the tank through the return line.If this happens,a low oil pressure light should come on and an alarm may sound.
A bypass valve will help prevent a blockage from causing serious damage to a hydraulic system.
If a bypass valve is installed in the circuit and it operates, the pump will still be able to supply some oil pressure to the actuator but not enough to keep it moving at a constant speed. The actuator will stop moving or will move very slowly when the valve opens. The bypass valve is set to open at a lower pressure than the relief valve so that it can operate before damage is done to any components in the circuit.
I have a Cat 308E2CR excavator I’m working on. The hydraulic system is letting down and we replaced the hydraulic pump, but it’s still letting down.
The machine will run fine for a while then it will start letting down. You can shut it off and let it sit for a while and it might be okay or you might have to get it towed in because it won’t move anymore.
No movement from cat excavator hydraulic cylinders
The hydraulic system is powered by an independent diesel engine. The system is controlled by three hand levers located on the right of the operator seat. Two switches are placed on the left floor next to the operator’s seat. The upper switch provides power to the circuit breaker, which powers all of the circuits used to move implements on the excavator. The second switch provides power to the main electric controls, which control lift and tilt functions of the boom, stick and buckets.
If you’re experiencing problems with a hydraulic cylinder not moving as it should, then first check that you have enough oil in your tank. If there’s still a problem then you may need to replace some parts or get your pump serviced.
If however it won’t extend under its own weight then you can rule out a valve control problem and will have to look at other possibilities like low hydraulic fluid level, problems with your electric motors or problems with your hydraulic pumps.
The hydraulic pump can be tested by disconnecting the hydraulic lines from the pump and then turning the electric motor on. If you have oil flow from all outputs of the pump then it’s probably good. If not, then you will need to replace it or rebuild it.
